Position Description
Title: Development Director
Reports to: Principal
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Hours: Part-time, 25-30 hours per week; 12 month employee
Schedule: Primarily Monday-Friday; may work from home one to two days a week. Schedule may vary based on school needs; occasional evening or weekend time may be necessary.
Job Purpose: The Development Director serves as a key member of the school’s leadership team and is an active participant in making strategic decisions for the school. The Development Director provides leadership, direction, and coordination for a comprehensive fundraising operation that secures financial resources from donors and other external sources. The Development Director builds a multi-faceted revenue stream and manages Development volunteers to meet short and long-term fundraising goals. While a senior management position, the Development Director reports to and takes final direction from the Principal through regularly scheduled Development Update meetings. The Development Director is required to provide written updates for these meetings.

1. Development Advisory
- Meets with the School Advisory’s Development Committee a minimum of two times a year to seek advice on development strategies and to ensure integrity of development program.
- Reports to and provides updates to Principal on a weekly (or other agreed to regular) basis.
- Identifies potential donors
- Invites donors to learn about and/or become engaged in school’s mission and/or certain areas of interest.
- Pursues in-kind donations.
- Identifies Planned Giving candidates; utilizes Diocesan resources
- Records in donor database all gifts to Endowment Fund, Tuition Assistance Fund, Technology Fund, Capital Improvement Fund, and any additional gifts outside of these major funds.
- Administers acknowledgement letters for all donations and all in-kind donations.
- Maintains accurate and complete records for all donations.
4. Event Planning and Execution
- Recruits, structures, and oversees volunteer force to plan and execute fundraising events, including but not necessarily limited to: Irish Picnic, Legacy Club Gala, Spring BBQ, Grandparent’s Day.
- Works with chairs of each event to ensure its success.
- Oversees all details of events from planning to execution through follow-up reporting.
- Produces or oversees production of all promotional efforts: mailed invites, flyers, bulletin articles, news releases, website announcements, social media announcements, etc.
- Develops, implements, and maintains strategy to reconnect alumni with school.
- Gathers news on alumni and includes in communications as space and time allow.
- Invites alumni to visit school and encourages ongoing connection via SPS website and Facebook.
- Plans and executes all-school reunions.
- Develops strategy, add content, and maintain school’s website and Facebook page. Emphasis is on school-wide news, events, and activities – as well as any Development-specific content.
- Provides assistance to other staff members or faculty as updating respective pages.
7. Publications
- Develops Irish magazine (writing, designing/layout, managing printing); bi-annual distribution to all stakeholders.
- Develops Annual Report (writing, designing/layout, managing printing); annual distribution to all stakeholders.
8. Grant Program
- Establishes new revenue streams through grant opportunities.
- Supports academic programs by researching and identifying grant opportunities, and developing high quality grant applications in collaboration with faculty and administration.
- Writes content of grant applications and follow-up reports on behalf of participating faculty and administration.
- Oversees Erate (telecommunications and Internet rebate) grant process.
- Meets all submission and reporting deadlines.
9. Organization’s Mission
- Participates actively in faculty and staff meetings as needed.
- Accepts membership on faculty and staff committees, particularly those needing development assistance, including, but not limited to: Technology, Mission/Philosophy.
10. Professional Development
- Attends educational and diocesan workshops and conferences as needed for continual professional development, particularly on the topic of Development in Catholic Schools.
Qualifications
- Belief in the value of Catholic education and the mission of St. Patrick School
- Demonstrates an understanding of the art and practice of Development, particularly in a Catholic school
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management or related field
- Demonstrated commitment to be current with the Nonprofit Development industry either through master’s level courses or continuing education opportunities
- 2-10 years’ experience in financial development for nonprofits
- Excellent communication skills
- Superior writing and editing skills
- Effective small group and large group presentation skills
- Design and layout experience; printing management also required
- Proficiency with entire Microsoft Office suite
- Proven track record managing volunteers
- Proven track record securing individual and corporate donations
- Proven track record in grant seeking
- Proficiency with Donor Tools or comparable donor database system
- Experience with content management websites
- Experience planning and executing large events
- Organized, accurate record-keeping skills
- Knowledge of online development opportunities, including social media strategies

Physical Demands
- At times, may need to work long hours on feet, especially during event planning and execution.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time at a computer station.
- Ability to operate keyboard in a safe and proficient manner.
- Walk flights of stairs sometimes carrying supplies.
- Sustain a high level of energy.
- Lift and move using proper techniques up to 40 pounds.
