Position Description 
Title:                                              Middle School Science and Social Studies Long Term Substitute
Reports to:                                      Principal
Hours:                                            9:00-3:15 Monday-Friday
Duration:                                        October-December
Salary:                                             Based on Experience. Starts at $18/hour

Requirements of the Position

1. Degree in Education
2. Experience as a science and social studies teacher
3. Strong Classroom Management Skills
4. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
5. Technology skills and ability to integrate technology into the instructional experiences

PREFERRED:

1. Active Catholic
2. Current Teaching License

Classes:
Science Teacher
2 Sections of 8th Grade Science
1 Section of 6th Grade Science
1 Section of 5th Grade Science

Social Studies Teacher
1 Section of 8th Grade Social Studies

Additional Opportunity of a 6th Grade Math is also available, adjusting arrival time to 8:15 or earlier if desirable.

Responsibilities:

1. Work closely with Science/Social Studies teacher to ensure continuity
2. Plan daily lessons according to any guidance provided by the Science/Social Studies teacher
3. Maintain classroom discipline
4. Supervise students to ensure physical, emotional, and social safety
5. Work with middle school teachers
6. Keep classroom room organized and clean
7.  Grade student work and keep a record of grades
8. Communicate with students' parents through weekly newsletter and folder system, initiate and respond to parent communication concerning student concerns, and keep principal informed of student concerns.
9. Uphold all school policies including COVID protocols

Responsibilities of all teachers

1. Responsible for conducting an organized and professional classroom.
2. Implements curriculum and instruction in a manner consistent with St. Patrick’s  Mission Statement, including understanding, modeling and fostering independent thinking skills, creative problem solving and abstract reasoning.
3. Shows empathy and understanding of students.
4. Develops with parents and students a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and objectivity; including open communication.
5. Assesses student performance frequently and objectively.
6. Facilitates resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents.
7. Holds parent/student/teacher conferences (if needed) in a manner consistent with St. Patrick’s Faculty Handbook.
8. Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and consequences.
9. Obtains permission before purchasing any materials needed for courses.
10. Follows Faculty Handbook policies and Diocese of Nashville Human Resource policies.
